Seattle Shootings
May 11th, 2006
The Seattle shootings were a horrible tragedy that has affected many, many lives in the dance scene community, not just in Seattle, but everywhere. The suriving victims are still very much in my thoughts to this day. I had been to Seattle for the very first time only a month before, and met several of these people - some of whom are no longer with us, and many who are forever affected. I am sure they still need help and support. Below is the post for donating/contributing instrubtions, for the living victims of the Capitol Hill shootings that occurred in April of this year. Pleaes do what you can to help. Below is the forward from the group who set up some fund relief sites and ways to help the crew:
Greetings Oracle Gatherings and Extended Family~
We imagine that you have heard about the recent events regarding the shootings here on Capitol Hill which have affected our city so deeply. In addition to the supportive words of some of the local press and and government officials, you may have encountered the negative press our communities and the victims themselves are receiving from those who know very little about the victims & survivors or who we are and what we do as a community.
If you still have questions or are looking for more information about the events, please read the following article in The Stranger which is a collection of first hand accounts from the survivors, many of which have been a part of the Oracle Gatherings community for some time.

The silver lining however has been the immediate support our communities have responded to this tragedy with, and we’d like to let you all know of a number of ways you can get involved and show your own support as we have a long way to go in raising funds to help those affected:
HELP FOR THE HOUSEMATE SURVIVORS
First and foremost, the actual survivors and the housemates of 2112 E. Republican are in need of financial support and supplies. Many are on leave from work, and in need of funds to cover temporary rent, food and other bills, secure future housing- not to mention long-term counseling if necessary. Gift cards for food and sundries from places like Costco, Target, Trader Joes, Madison Market, PCC, Fred Meyer/QFC or any supermarket would be great. We’re also trying to raise money for their living expenses to give them the time and resources they need to heal. To give directly to them, a paypal account has been set up:
You can donate at paypal.com to the e-mail address 2112relief@gmail.com
The housemates are also looking for a 5-6 bedroom house on Capitol Hill. If anyone has information on a house situation, please contact the housemates directly IF you know them or you can email yvette@oraclegatherings.com.
HELP FOR THE VICTIMS FAMILIES
Donations to help the victims’ families are being accepted at any Bank of America branch. Toby Dziubala, a disc jockey from Redmond, set up the fund. People can make donations to the “Remember Relief Fund.” Seattle-area residents can contact Bank of America at 206-461-0800.
SUPPORT FOR TEMPLE MEMORIAL
David Best (the manifster of the Temple at Burning Man- the 2nd largest installation in terms of size and importance after the Man at Burning Man and an agent for remembrance, grief & renewal) was here this week and inspired many of us to embark on the building of a temporary Memorial Temple that reflects the victims and who and what we are as an artistic community. The idea is to get this on the ground in Seattle as soon as possible and fundraising efforts are already underway. There are a number of ways to be part of this beautiful _expression of grief and healing:
You can donate at paypal.com to the e-mail address 2112templefund@gmail.com
**Paypal is free and easy to sign up for. If you have any problems with paypal please email Lori Gifford - lagifford@yahoo.com- and we can find an alternate form of payment.**

There are also several events being planned to raise money and unite the community. The main one is “In Loving Memory: A Celebration of Seattle Music Culture” on April 29th at the Seattle Center. More information will be released shortly, but if you are have the opportunity to come to Seattle, this is the time to do it. The musical styles of the victims will be represented along with many of the major music scenes in Seattle.
For smaller events benefiting the victim’s family and survivors, please check out nwtekno.org.
